Myths of Nuclear Weapons

This is not an article about ancient myths described in Mahabharata or Ramayana about a nuclear war in ancient Hindustan where, according to these manuscripts, 3-4 ancient cities were destroyed by a Brahmastra or an ancient nuclear weapon. However, these are also interesting myths that I certainly believe. You think that we are the first civilization on our planet that was able to invent a nuclear weapon? I'll leave that question to you to answer. I just find it interesting that India was a British colony for a long time. And Britain was an ally of the US, the country that invented the nuclear weapon, and to which various ancient manuscripts could have leaked this way from India. It is worth noting that during the first nuclear test of our civilization, which was called "Trinity", Oppenheimer quoted the Mahabharata - "And I became Shiva (Death), the destroyer of nations."

Codenamed "Ivy Mike", our current civilization's first large-scale thermonuclear device test, launched in 1952. November 1, when US bombed Elugelab Island in Enewetak Atoll (yield 10,4 megatons of TNT).

In the dark days of the Cold War, somewhere in the middle of the 1960s, the Soviet Union developed the R-36 intercontinental ballistic missile, which was later named as "Satan" by NATO. NATO usually assigns its own code names to all Soviet and later Russian military inventions. Designed for war, this missile served for peace at that time. Because the Western world, frightened by the information about this weapon, decided that further nuclear armament would lead to an abyss, that it was time to think about nuclear weapons reduction and disarmament. That is why the invention of this rocket was important as a deterrent, and not a weapon that someone would actually use, what threats the Kremlin is throwing today.

Contrary to the myths, the R-36 missile has only 10 warheads, not 12 or 20, which are popular myths about it. Also, such a number of warheads are needed to confuse the enemy's air defenses and usually only a small number of them are actually nuclear. This does not mean that one missile can destroy 10 cities, probably just a few, and other warheads will simply be mock-ups that will disrupt air defenses. In this way, the myth that one missile can be enough to destroy an entire country, especially one as large as the United States, is unfounded.

Myths about how dangerous nuclear weapons are

Nuclear weapons are generally only effective against cities and are particularly ineffective in mountainous areas. The main military doctrines of their use state their use against cities. As a result, living somewhere far from the city puts you at the least risk. Also, after a nuclear explosion, radiation levels drop sharply within a week.

In Japan, the islands of Hiroshima and Nagasaki have been inhabited for a long time, if we talk about the widespread myth that it takes at least 100 or even 1000 years to live in a specific area after a nuclear explosion. The hottest, in terms of radiation, is the first week and after that the greatest danger is from dust that turns radioactive.

Many places where nuclear tests took place during the Cold War have long been inhabited. People have adapted to the increased radiation background and in some cases even completely. Even where tests of thermonuclear devices took place. Thermonuclear or hydrogen explosions are generally considered "ecologically clean". However, in order to reach the necessary temperature for a thermonuclear reaction, a nuclear reaction is required. In this way, in the case of a thermonuclear charge, a nuclear bomb is first detonated, which turns into thermonuclear from the temperature reached.

Take a look at the Chernobyl area, where flora and fauna flourish.

Also, not all people die in a nuclear explosions. Data according to The Atomic Archive:
Hiroshima Nagasaki
Pre-raid population 255,000 195,000
Dead 66,000 39,000
Injured 69,000 25,000
Total Casualties 135,000 64,000

War in Ukraine and Kremlin threats

The most interesting in the myths is the current Kremlin propaganda thoughts about Ukraine, where the Kremlin announces that the new Satan-2 (RS-28 Sarmat) missile threatens everyone, the name of which, as we already know, is NATO, not the Russian code name. Just as their Orthodox Church carries out such threats, together with Kremlin propagandists they declare war on Satanism, but as representatives of the church they threaten the so-called Satanists with a rocket called "Satan". How did the church allow this? What parallel reality are these people living in?!
